KUALA LUMPUR 18 June 2026 - Volkswagen Passenger Cars Malaysia (VPCM) today announces the arrival of the new Volkswagen Golf R, the latest evolution of the brand’s performance hatch. Celebrating rich motorsport heritage, this newest iteration combines cutting-edge digitalisation, dynamic design enhancements, and the most powerful production Golf engine to date.

Engineered for drivers who demand both everyday usability and thrilling performance, the new Golf R raises the benchmark in the performance hatchback segment, and comes with the recommended retail price of RM337,790.

Malaysia is the only country outside of Germany to locally assemble the Golf R, at the Volkswagen plant in Pekan.

Performance: The Golf Goes Beast-Mode

At the heart of the new Golf R lies a significantly enhanced powertrain – a 2.0 TSI turbocharged engine with an output of up to 333PS, making it the most powerful production Golf currently in the market. Paired to a 7-speed DSG transmission, this beast sprints from 0-100km/h in just 4.6 seconds.

Enhanced torque (420 Nm) sent to all four wheels using 4MOTION increases stability and surgical precision while cornering. The R Performance Torque Vectoring system variably distributes torque between the rear wheels for sharper turn-in and enhanced cornering dynamics for those who live to drift.

The new Golf R features multiple drive modes including Comfort, Sport, Race, Drift, and Individual. Engineered for exhilarating performance, the Golf R is a refined hatchback for everyday driving in one moment, and a Nürburgring-inspired precision tool in the next.

Striking Exterior: Sharper, Bolder, More Aggressive

The new Golf R introduces a refreshed and more assertive design language, elevating its unmistakable road presence.

Its sharper lines define a more expressive, modern look from the front, with an illuminated Volkswagen logo on the front bumper, and a new front bumper altogether as an additional identifying feature, giving it a sportier, more aggressive stance.

Exclusive ‘R’ styling elements, including the R Performance titanium quad exhaust system from Akrapovič and aerodynamic accents make for a classic motorsport- inspired look and a more emotive exhaust note. The new Golf R rides on lightweight 19-inch ‘Estoril’ Alloy wheels designed to enhance both performance and visual appeal.

IQ.LIGHT LED matrix headlights incorporate a new high-performance main beam. The redesigned IQ.LIGHT 3D LED taillight clusters, paired with dynamic turn signals and animated rear graphics add an extra element of style to function.

Available colour options are the new Dolphin Grey, along with Lapiz Blue, Grenadilla Black, and Pure White.
