ACC & Front Assist

VW Golf: Assistance systems

You can remain more relaxed in traffic if you keep a sufficient distance from the vehicle in front. The optionally available automatic distance control ACC supports you in this.

ACC measures the distance and relative speed of vehicles in front. A sensor records an area of up to 120 m in front of the vehicle. In columns and traffic jams, the system brakes the Volkswagen in conjunction with the optional DSG dual-clutch transmission to a standstill and, depending on the situation, starts moving again within three seconds. The system can keep your vehicle at a distance from the vehicle in front at speeds of up to 160 km/h within its limits.

Sometimes something unexpected happens, which means that quick and strong braking is necessary. In such cases, the included Front Assist environment monitoring system including the City Emergency Braking function can help. If a critical rear-end situation is detected within the system limits at a speed of approx. 30 to 210 km/h, Front Assist warns the driver acoustically and visually and prepares for possible braking. If the dangerous situation is not defused, the system automatically initiates the braking process, which may reduce the impact speed. Front Assist also supports the driver during the actual braking and ensures that - if necessary - the maximum braking force is used.

The City Emergency Braking function is a system extension of Front Assist that works in stop-and-go traffic in the city. At a speed of 5 to 30 km/h, it can react with an emergency braking at the last moment before a rear-end collision.
