The start-stop system automatically switches off the engine when the vehicle comes to a standstill. The engine only runs when it is actually needed. The driver approaches a red traffic light and waits until the vehicle comes to a standstill. The driver then shifts (as normal) into neutral and takes their foot off the clutch. This instantaneously switches off the engine. The "Start-Stop" message appears in the "multifunction display". As soon as the light changes to amber, the driver steps on the clutch and the engine starts up again. The "Start-Stop" message goes off. The system constantly monitors the drain on the battery and will only switch the engine off if there is sufficient energy to restart.
